From primary school, I remember a beautifully coloured map of the Mediterranean Sea on a classroom wall, with its curious shape like some sort of esoteric symbol.  I remember immersing myself in Latin and Greek at secondary school, and going on to read classical and mediaeval histories of the sea and its surrounding region.  I read the wonderfully inspiring 2-volume book on the mediaeval Mediterranean by the French hiostorian Fernand Braudel.  And. most of all, I remember my many journeys to towns and cities on the Mediterranean coast - the varied cultures, the climate, the sounds and smells.

These poems are about my lifelong fascination with the Mediterranean Sea and ithe places around its coasts.  Like "The Summer Poem" - elsewhere on this site - this is a work of "travel-mysticism".  I hope to be adding more pieces to this collection for years to come.
